november 25
for the past 2 years we have cut down our christmas tree the day (or weekend) after thanksgiving. since we would travel to cincinnati for christmas, our tree in seattle always came down early so it was nice to get it up as soon as thanksgiving was over. one of my favorite things about living in snoqualmie was going to cut down our christmas tree, so we looked for a tree farm here that might offer a similar experience. similar? i would say, "no," but Big Tree Plantation did have some gorgeous trees! it was also a gorgeous day to cut down a tree. ba kaye and bob bob met us at the farm to help us pick out the perfect tree as they've done for the past 2 years. i think this year was the fastest we have ever selected a tree. we drove into lebanon afterwards and had brunch together, and then we headed home with the kids to decorate the tree. i can already tell this christmas is going to be very different than christmases past. brooke is oozing with excitement, and it's rubbing off on gavin, too. they insisted on putting every ornament on the tree themselves :) at first it freaked me out not to be in control of decorating the christmas tree, but then i just looked at kevin and laughed at myself. it's going to be their christmas. and it's going to be great, tree and all.
