october 31

i have always loved halloween, but i love it even more now that i have children.  i took gavin to school today so he could enjoy his own little halloween celebration in his classroom (aunt megan was even there volunteering all morning).  while gavin was at school, i took the girls to get their nails done for halloween.  they both chose orange and black - hanna's nails alternated orange and black, while brooke had one hand painted orange & one hand painted black.  i love how they give everything their own twist :)  tonight we took little red riding hood, the big bad wolf and a princess pirate trick-or-treating through grand oaks.  it was a beautiful night to be out.  and, boy, was everyone out!  halloween was a lot of fun in our new neighborhood.  drinks were passed, candy was handed out and kids ran as fast as they could from house to house.  gavin had a hard time keeping up with hanna and brooke, but brooke looked out for him and made sure that he got plenty of candy.  she is such a thoughtful big sister.  kevin sat at the end of our driveway and handed out candy while we were out trick-or-treating.  for the first time ever, we actually gave out all of our candy (but not all of the snack-size bags of pirate booty).  we turned in for the evening and let the kids dig into some candy while we toasted the end of a great visit with great friends.
