last night the doorbell rang and on our doorstep was a book - the elf on the shelf! santa left the book for brooke and gavin and in it told of the elf that would be visiting our house. the look on brooke's face was priceless! we read the book and explained the "rules" that come with having an elf in your house - you can't touch the elf (or he loses his magic) and the elf can't talk to you (santa's rule). this morning the kids rushed downstairs to find their elf, and there he sat on the tea kettle, just hanging out. the kids were beyond thrilled, but brooke was pretty disappointed that the elf can't talk to her. at one point she even exclaimed that he just looked like a plastic toy (!!), but she quickly moved on from that thought :) brooke and gavin named our elf "jingle bell." he'll fly back to the north pole every night and report to santa on brooke and gavin's behavior. then he'll return and hide in a different spot each morning. i can tell this is going to fun for the kids and for me, too!
